The Art Department teaches a variety of drawing courses. We focus on developing the individual student’s a drawing ability in a very structured and accessible manner. Many of our students start the class with minimal experience or confidence in drawing, but by the end they become confident in their abilities. We highlight each student’s growth by having them compare the first drawing they did (on the first day of class, with no instruction) and their final drawing project—it is very obvious how much they have improved!
We offer oil paint classes to provide students the opportunity to learn the craft, as well as how to develop concepts. Our students are encouraged to experiment with different mediums as they develop their own way of image making.
Our printmaking course introduces students to block printing, monoprints and serigraphy (silk-screen). Exposure to these processes are the perfect gateway for students to explore alternative methods of image making and it often directly informs their work, whether in a painting, photograph or digital design.
